One, two and four day retreats for women in peri menopause, menopause and beyond.

“Dear Pleasing, I’m leaving you for Pleasure.” - Sarah Durham Wilson

Way of women retreats are a nurturing space for women to share, learn and practice together, supporting each other so that they may step into the wisdom of mid-life as strong, empowered, embodied women.

“What is the greatest lesson a woman should learn?
That since day one, she’s already had everything she needs within herself
It’s the world that convinced her she did not” Rupe Kaur

Practice

Connection and an openness to getting to know ourselves a new, is key at this time of our lives and the transition is made smoother and richer if we have an ability to respond from a full well of resources to our often rapidly changing inner landscape .

Unfortunately a frazzled nervous system and a vast array of symptoms of which hot flushes is just one and a flat “lack of joy kind of feeling” is what women often experience due to wildly fluctuating hormones.

Somatic practice is by its nature incredibly nurturing, our yoga and movement sessions focus on the womb space, pelvis and bones and we work with the elements to relieve symptoms.
The meditation, breath work and restorative yoga focus on attuning, revitalising and nurturing.
Rest rebellion sessions involve inquiry , journaling and deep rest, listening to beautiful music while curled in comforting nests of blankets.
Information leads to a sense of empowerment but practice and a deep intimacy with the body is what leads to deep wisdom, invaluable autonomy and intuitive ability to make choices that nourish and sustain.

Science and HRT

We of course are not Doctors or specialists and the information we share on our retreats is designed to empower you to ask questions and seek out access to information if you choose to visit a specialist, your G.P or an alternative women’s health practitioner.

Asking the right questions and being well informed can really make a difference to the 10 minute appointment you may be allocated when seeing your G.P

In our informal presentations we cover hormones, diverse symptoms, check ups and tests, the science and the alternatives, bio and body identical hormones and we give you a thoroughly researched list of compiled free resources so that you feel fully supported on leaving the retreat.

There is lots of support out there if you know where to look!

Nutrition, Herbs, Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda and CBD

Our nutritionist delves into the importance of digestive health and we get into the nitty gritty of the gut biome and the specific challenges we may face at this time. We look at natural foods that support hormone balance, histamine response and candida and additional ways to boost our natural diet with supplementation and super foods.
We have informal presentations on Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda to see what we may glean from their approach to food, herbs, spices and lifestyle changes for the menopause.

We have a look at CBD and its potential benefits for sleep and anxiety.

“Empowering women is something I did throughout my life but it took on a new dimension with the way of women retreat I attended.
We all know so little about one of the most important stages of our lives.
Thank you so much Jo, for opening that new door, helping me and us, giving us tools to go ahead with understanding” Natalie

Women’s Circles

We dance in celebration, we explore our history, we read inspirational poetry, create, sing and share our wisdom our hopes and fears in beautiful women’s circles.
These women’s circles are at the heart of the way of women retreats, it’s here that we feel seen and heard.
Depending on the length of the retreat we invite in Women creatives to share their area of expertise sometimes in writing, foraging, crafting, fermentation etc. These are optional workshops but can add a really fun and enriching element to your retreat.

Venues, Location and Food

We are located just outside Barcelona in the beautiful town of Sitges and hold retreats in this area, Begur and the Costa Brava.
Our venues vary but pristine nature, peaceful surroundings, a sustainable and ecological ethos and access to great walks are the constant.

We love organic wholesome food and introduce you to foods that balance the hormones and support a relief of symptoms.

On the longer retreats we have an optional group cooking class worked into the retreat schedule for hands on learning.

Treatments

Time for massage and organic vegan facials is woven into our retreat schedule.
On the longer retreats we have visiting Ayurvedic and Chinese Medicine practitioners and Herbalists who share there expertise and offer private treatments.

““A circle of women may just be the most powerful force known to humanity. If you have one, embrace it. If you need one, seek it. If you find one, for the love of all that is good and holy, dive in. Hold on. Love it up. Get Naked. Let them see you. Let them hold you. Let your reluctant tears fall. Let yourself rise fierce and love gentle. You will be changed. The very fabric of your being will be altered by this, if you allow it. Please, please allow it.”

“Experiencing my own peri - menopausal journey has been equally confusing, powerful and insightful. Changes in mood and strange fluctuating symptoms lead me to learning as much as I could, I read a lot, I trained in menopause yoga, I embarked on pelvis workshops and began to understand the significance of the story of my pelvis. I explored, adapted and discovered new ways of practicing. I felt a deep call to be around women as much as possible and I engaged in conversation about the menopause experience whenever I got the opportunity. It became clear that so many women really experience this phase of life as something to shoulder, adopting a grin and bear it attitude. As I listened and learned it became clear to me that the menopause is a feminist issue and we have a lot of work to do! There is a great need for more conversation, gatherings of celebration, practice and sisterhood and more readily available information.
The way of woman has happened organically and quite naturally! A bringing together of all of my years of experience in organising and leading many retreats, my passion for Somatics and connections with gifted and wise women all come together in this informative, joyful, expressive and creative space” .. “The menopause retreat was a wonderful gathering of women from all backgrounds and nationalities sharing one special thing…we are all embarking in one form or another into this next stage of life - Menopause! The retreat was very special, we were able to share our experiences and learn that we are not alone on this journey, we were given valuable information regarding all aspects of this new stage of life. For me personally I now feel this is a time in life to embrace instead of viewing it with fear and trepidation… it is not the end but the beginning. Thank you Jo for being such a kind facilitator in guiding us towards feeling appreciative and at peace with this next stage of life.” Nancy
